Daniel Farke could replace Leeds United mainstay with European record-breaker as new transfer link emerges

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been a hot topic all season. Now, he looks set to be replaced for good.

Illan Meslier was coming under some serious scrutiny at the time when Daniel Farke finally decided to drop the Frenchman, and replace him with the much more comfortable Karl Darlow.

Meslier was making one too many mistakes in goal, leading to goals in games where Leeds United were either winning or drawing. In the end, it didn’t matter, as Leeds United earned promotion on Easter Monday.

Now reports are saying that Meslier is likely to leave Leeds United this summer, rather unsurprisingly, and we have quite a few names tipped to replace him at Elland Road.

Leeds United are linked with Aaron Ramsdale, Caoimhin Kelleher and others, and now we have a new shot-stopper to keep an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window opening in June.

Leeds United linked with FC Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen

Reports coming out of Germany have now linked Leeds United with FC Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen. Sport BILD say that Leeds are keeping tabs on the German 27-year-old who is also eligible to play for England, and who has certainly turned heads in the Bundesliga in 2024/25.

Dahmen went 683 minutes without conceding a single goal in the Bundesliga: breaking the club record and setting the sixth-longest time without conceding a goal in German top flight history.

But Dahmen recently played his 50th game for Augsburg, automatically triggering a contract extension until the summer of 2027. He was previously out of contract in the summer of 2026.

Finn Dahmen’s 24/25 stats vs Illan Meslier’s at Leeds United

Meslier’s has actually kept the second-most clean sheets in the Championship this season, bettered only by Leeds United target James Trafford at Burnley.

But Meslier has been massively helped by the fact that Leeds United have dominated so may games, barely needing to defend in some instances. Augsburg meanwhile are 10th in the Bundesliga meaning that Dahmen has had plenty to do in goal.

Dahmen only came into action in the second half of the season but instantly showed his worth, so much so that he could now seal a Premier League move in the summer transfer window.

Right now though, for Leeds United, Dahmen just seems like one of a number of goalkeeping targets going into the summer.
