Club cool interest in signing £30m Leeds United player as they’ve decided to buy someone else

Leeds United now have one less club to worry about when it comes to keeping one of their key men this summer.

The Whites have already allowed 16 players to depart this summer but that figure is expected to continue rising before the end of the window.

Liam Cooper’s exit has not yet officially been confirmed as he still remains a free agent, though Daniel Farke did drop a major hint he would not be signing an extension.

And despite Archie Gray’s sale, some of Leeds’ best players continue to attract big money interest from elsewhere, none more so than Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto.

Leeds already have a plan in place for when or if they both depart, with Summerville attracting interest from across Europe, and Everton back in for Gnonto.

AS Roma make decision on Summerville pursuit

Leeds and Summerville are actually said to have an ‘understanding’ that he will depart at some point this summer.

However, Summerville’s camp are keen to ensure Leeds receive the best possible deal financially in return for the faith they have shown in him since arriving in England four years ago.

On top of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, West Ham United, Rennes and AS Roma are the latest three sides to come to the table and make an approach to Leeds for the 22-year-old.

However, according to Team Talk, Roma can now be ruled out of the race after deciding to push the button on another of their winger targets instead.

It is said Roma are now closing in on the signing of Juventus star Matias Soule for a fee that could end up being worth somewhere in the region of £30 million.

Given Leeds have valued Summerville at that same price point, their interest has now cooled in the Dutchman as they won’t be forking out a big fee on another winger.

Chelsea could still come forward for Summerville

As mentioned, Chelsea are one of the sides keen on a move for Summerville this summer, but are yet to come to the table with a concrete proposal.

However, that same report from Team Talk has suggested Chelsea certainly cannot be ruled out later in the window as they continue their search for another left-winger.

Stamford Bridge would be a fantastic move for Summerville and just reward for his performances last season, though there could be a concern over potential game time.

Having said that, under Chelsea’s new ownership, they have based their entire recruitment strategy signing players like Summerville and blooding them into the team.
