West Ham United have opened talks to sign a player from Leeds United in the latest twist surrounding the Elland Road star’s future in Yorkshire, with many turns already taken.

Leeds have already waved goodbye to six players permanently this summer. Archie Gray moved to West Ham’s rivals Tottenham, while Marc Roca and Diego Llorente have joined Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis.

Kris Klaesson is in Poland with Rakow while both Charlie Cresswell and Glen Kamara have joined French clubs. But the Leeds fire sale is not expected to end there with many other players linked with a sale.

It comes after The 49ers underlined Leeds’ need to sell. While Gray’s £40m exit has put paid to that for the time being, every player has his price and Crysencio Summerville is still expected to exit this summer.

West Ham make new approach for £40m-rated Leeds star

Plenty of Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for Summerville already this summer, after he won The Championship’s Player of the Season award last term after producing 31 goals and assists.

Latest reports say that Summerville is ‘weighing up his future’ with Newcastle, Palace and Villa among the clubs interested in a £40m deal. A new report on Monday even said Manchester United want Summerville.

Now, Fabrizio Romano said in an exclusive that West Ham have made an approach to sign Summerville from Leeds. But, a move is not advanced with the Hammers aware that it would be an expensive deal.

Romano said on X on Monday: “West Ham have submitted an initial proposal to Leeds United for Crysencio Summerville. Talks took place also on player side, but still not close, considered very expensive.”

Roma also interested in doing third deal with Leeds in 12 months

Romano also reports that Roma are interested in signing Summerville if they lose their heavily-linked Argentine Matias Soule, with Leicester among the clubs said to be after the young forward this summer.

Leeds and Roma have a good working relationship after Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen both spent the 2023-24 season in Italy. Talks between Leeds and Roma also took place this summer regarding Llorente.

Soule does look as though he could be on his way and Summerville might end up being targeted by Daniele De Rossi’s side. But right now, West Ham are making movements with talks ongoing for him.
