Blow for Leeds United as forward target now unlikely to leave on deadline day because of fitness issues

Leeds United’s rather long-winded interest in a Championship player ends here. He’s not leaving on deadline day.

Leeds United have several irons in the fire ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline, or at least so it seems with link to a handful of players.

Right now, it looks like Cameron Archer is the no.1 target for Daniel Farke’s side, who’ve not signed a single player in this January transfer window.

Southampton are set to sign Victor Udoh which could open the door for Archer to move to Elland Road. And Farke may be extra keen on Archer after hearing the latest on Mike Tresor.

Leeds United have been linked with Tresor for several weeks now. The Belgian attacking midfielder appears to be well out of favour at Turf Moor having not made a single league appearances for Scott Parker’s side all season.

And ahead of deadline day, Parker opened the door for Tresor to leave Burnley. Despite that, an emerging report from Burney Express has all but ruled out a deadline day exit for the 25-year-old, with a ‘surprise’ move to Leeds now looking very unlikely.

Journalist Matt Scrafton writes: “In Tresor’s case, it’s also understood that – despite his recent outing against Reading in the FA Cup – he’s currently not fit to play, making a departure unlikely.”

The latest on Cameron Archer to Leeds United

With a move for Tresor seemingly not an option, Leeds can put 100% of their focus on a deal for Archer, with the door seemingly open after reports that Southampton are set to sign Udoh.

It was understood that Southampton wanted to bolster their frontline before considering an exit for Archer, which they’ve now done, albeit without official confirmation of the move.

If Leeds can get a deal over the line for the 23-year-old Saints man then it would be a very positive end to an otherwise poor transfer window from the Whites.
