Cameron Archer to Leeds United one step closer as Southampton make move

Leeds United’s priority on deadline day will be signing a new striker at Elland Road and Southampton ace Cameron Archer is top of the list, after The Whites made a loan bid.

Leeds made a loan bid to sign Archer but Southampton rejected the bid. The Saints are said to be holding out for a new addition before allowing their £15m summer signing to depart, with Leeds in pole position.

Daniel Farke’s side remain keen on Archer but Southampton want a replacement in before allowing the England U21 man to go. Southampton have shown interest in Tottenham’s Dane Scarlett in recent days.

West Ham could play a part in Leeds’ move for Archer, too. Indeed, Southampton want a return for Danny Ings and if the Hammers sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton, then they could sanction an exit for Ings.

Fabrizio Romano news offers Leeds hope in Archer pursuit

Late on Sunday evening, Fabrizio Romano delivered some news that surely aids Leeds in their bid to sign Archer. Indeed, the widely-respected transfer expert says Southampton have agreed a fee for a striker.

Royal Antwerp’s Victor Udoh looks set for the Premier League with Southampton after The Saints agreed a deal. Romano says the move is close and a deal is ticking along nicely ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Romano reported on X that the south coast club are closing in on the signing of Antwerp’s Udoh: “EXCL: Southampton agree fee to sign Victor Udoh from Royal Antwerp, deal at advanced stages.”

Evan Ferguson update also hands Leeds some Archer hope

Udoh is a forward and can play anywhere across the front line and that means Southampton are set to make a signing that pushes Archer down the pecking order. That, or Udoh is simply one for the future.

The Nigerian has failed to score or assist in his 20 senior Antwerp outings. Southampton may see Udoh as a future talent rather than one for the here and now, meaning they could still look to keep Archer.

However, their interest in Ings is genuine and Sky Sports say Ferguson has now passed a medical at West Ham in a move that reunites Graham Potter with the Irishman. That means, West Ham will let Ings go.

If Southampton do choose to lure Ings back to St. Mary’s, then it could soften their stance on Archer and Leeds finally get their man. Deadline day is sure to provide many twists and turns, and this could be one.
