Leeds United are intent on signing Southampton ace Cameron Archer before the close of the January transfer window on Monday night, and Graham Potter could now play a key role.
Leeds have already seen a loan bid rejected for Archer, who is struggling for game time and goals since his £15m move to Southampton from Sheffield United last summer. Leeds meanwhile, want a striker.
Despite scoring the most goals in the Championship with another seven following on Saturday, Leeds do lack cover for Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph. Joe Gelhardt has gone on loan and Patrick Bamford is injured.
Leeds are intent on going back in for 23-year-old Archer, a player that has had a hand in 25 goals during 40 Championship games while on loan at Preston and Middlesbrough. Graham Potter could play a role.

Cameron Archer signing could now hinge on Graham Potter
As is the way with transfers especially in the January window, clubs will not allow players to leave until replacements are signed. It is no different with Southampton as they look to sign someone for Archer.
It has been claimed that Southampton want Tottenham talent Dane Scarlett as a replacement for Archer, but now Danny Ings is being linked with a return to the Saints. Potter has a decision to make with Ings.
The Mirror’s David Anderson reports that if West Ham and Potter sanction a move for Ings, then it may allow Leeds to strike a deal for Archer with Southampton remaining firm in their stance as things stand.
He said: “If Southampton re-sign Danny Ings from West Ham following Evan Ferguson’s arrival for the Hammers, that may soften their stance on Leeds’ strong interest in Archer.”
What are the chances West Ham sanction Danny Ings move?
Well, Potter sanctioning an exit could depend on Evan Ferguson. Leeds were linked with Ireland striker Ferguson at the start of the window, but a Premier League move was always expected for Ferguson.
West Ham are making a move for Ferguson at this late stage and if Potter gets his man, then surely he will allow England international Ings a move away from The Hammers. A proper transfer merry-go-round.
If Brighton allow West Ham to sign Ferguson, then the Hammers will let Ings go and if Southampton re-sign their old striker then Leeds will surely have a strong chance of a deadline-day move for Archer.
