Leeds United have signed Sean Longstaff on a four-year deal, but their interest in TSG 1899 Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach remains.

Anton Stach stands at 6’4″ and Leeds United want both him and Longstaff to dominate midfield battles, adding to Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, and Ilia Gruev in their engine room.

We first suggested Leeds should be looking into signing Stach this summer and it’s since been confirmed that Stach is valued in excess of £17 million by the Bundesliga outfit, with Leeds seriously interested.

Hoffenheim are now telling Leeds to ‘dig deep’ into their pockets to sign him, amid talk that Stach is “considering” a switch to Leeds this summer.

Leeds United handed boost in Anton Stach race

Leeds aren’t happy with Stach’s public presence, as the deal being out there gives Hoffenheim the chance to be tricky negotiators. However, personal terms with Stach and Leeds are now in place at the very least.

Leeds aren’t the only interested party, though, with Besiktas also registering interest in Stach. In spite of that, and of VfB Stuttgart registering interest, Leeds lead the race. Further still, it appears Stuttgart are now out of the running entirely.

At 5.39pm yesterday (18/07/2025), Sky Sports Germany put out the following update: “Nach Informationen von Sky Sport will Leeds United um Trainer Daniel Farke Hoffenheim-Profi Anton Stach verpflichten.

“Der zweimalige deutsche Nationalspieler ist sich grundsätzlich mit Leeds einig. Die TSG fordert über 20 Millionen Euro. Der Poker zieht sich. Der VfB Stuttgart ist aktuell raus.”

It translates to: “According to Sky Sports, Leeds United, led by coach Daniel Farke, are looking to sign Hoffenheim player Anton Stach.

“The two-time Germany international has reached an agreement with Leeds in principle. TSG is demanding over €20 million. The poker game drags on. VfB Stuttgart are now out of the running.”

It appears as though Leeds have a clear run at this now, with paying up the required fee now the only obstacle remaining to be overcome to secure Stach’s signature.

The latest from Beren Cross on Anton Stach

Of course, no agreement is yet in place for Stach, but Leeds’ interest remains strong and Beren Cross reports that he is the closest Leeds target to being signed next.

Speaking via The Athletic after Leeds signed Longstaff, he explained: “Of all the irons Leeds have in the fire, their talks with Hoffenheim about midfielder Anton Stach appear to be the most advanced.”

He adds that, despite signing Longstaff, the German international midfielder remains a target Leeds want to land this summer.

But he explains that no agreement regarding a fee is in place for the 26-year-old, but that Elland Road sources are “confident there will be no issues finalising terms with Stach.”

Leeds fans are ‘moved’ at the idea of Stach, given the sheer presence and physicality he will bring to an already physical-looking midfield department.
