Leeds United have been linked with a move for Josh Sargent for over a year now, with Daniel Farke potentially keen on a reunion with the Norwich City striker.
It’s been a saga involving Leeds United for some time now, with serious Leeds links to Sargent emerging in May 2024, with Farke also raving about the Norwich striker.
At one stage of the window, it looked as though Leeds would sign Sargent or Beto of Everton. Neither deal has materialised, but the possibility always remained that Leeds could look to Sargent as an option.
In the eyes of many, Sargent was the best striker in the Championship last season, which is why Leeds and Burnley have been linked to Sargent this summer ahead of the Premier League.

Leeds supporters react to fee Norwich City are receiving for Josh Sargent
Leeds have already signed Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer this summer to bolster their striking options, while Leeds are edging closer to a Rodrigo Muniz agreement as their first-choice in 2025/26.
VfL Wolfsburg now want Sargent to replace Nmecha, with Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports revealing a £21 million deal has been struck to return the USMNT centre-forward back to the Bundesliga.
A mixture of relief and astonishment has been the reaction from Leeds fans, with many thankful that Leeds didn’t commit such a fee to Sargent, instead hoping for more proven and less injury-prone quality.
A further response read: “WHAT? £21m? That’s insane.”
Another Leeds fan added: “21m? Norwich have played a blinder there.”
Some are mystified at the price compared to Muniz, stating: “£30-40mill for Muniz in this market is somewhat justified it seems. Mental.”
Sargent’s injury record is a concern, even if the 25-year-old has developed into a better player over the last three seasons of Championship football.

Josh Sargent’s Premier League, Championship, and Bundesliga records
Chris Sutton did not expect Leeds to sign Sargent this summer, which looks like being the case now as he closes in on a switch back to the German top flight.
Sargent was signed by Werder Bremen from Florida’s IMG Academy as a youngster. The then young striker broke through before sealing a switch to Norwich under Farke.
| League | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Bundesliga | 70 | 11 | 6 |
| Bundesliga play-offs | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Premier League | 26 | 2 | 1 |
| Championship | 98 | 44 | 9 |
| Championship play-offs | 2 | 0 | 0 |
However, it’s clear to see why many Leeds fans are concerned by Sargent’s return, even if he could fare better now as an older and more mature player than his last Premier League campaign.
With better players around him, it’s fair to say Sargent could thrive. But a £21 million outlay for someone with his inconsistent fitness record is certainly a risk Leeds will feel they could not afford to take.
