After Leeds United had late bid rejected, 27-year-old could make move to new European club

Leeds United tried and failed to sign a number of centre-backs during the final stage of the window.

The Whites’ main priority was signing another right-back, which they managed to achieve in the very final moments of the window as Connor Roberts made the loan switch from Burnley.

However, at one stage, it had looked as though a central defender would be coming in as Leeds made attempts to sign the likes of Harry Souttar, Joe Worrall and Ben Godfrey. Chris Mepham was another who an offer was rejected for.

None of those players ended up leaving their respective clubs but it would appear as though one of them could be about to make the switch across Europe – Joe Worrall.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Trabzonspor have now sent a ‘formal offer’ to Nottingham Forest for the 27-year-old, and are pushing to get a deal over the line.

Worrall close to Turkey move

Unlike England, Turkish clubs have until February 9 to complete anymore remaining transfer business and so there is still a week for Trabzonspor to complete a transfer for Worrall.

Leeds actually saw an offer turned down by Forest the night before deadline day, with the Whites having tried to sign him on loan by paying a fee and covering all of his wages.

Forest, though, did not want to let him leave on loan and therefore rejected bids from both Leeds and Sheffield United, before then changing their mind. It was too late by that point.

In the end, Leeds did not sign a central defender and in all honesty, it shouldn’t matter too much as both Liam Cooper and Charlie Cresswell stayed at Elland Road. Ethan Ampadu is also proving what a reliable asset he can be there.

Worrall now looks set for a completely new challenge in his career, which the Turkish league will most certainly provide.
