Conor Roberts shares what he has told his teammates before about Leeds United in private chats

Connor Roberts became Leeds United’s one and only signing of the January window late last night.

The Whites waited right until the last moments of the deadline to announce his arrival, joining on loan from Burnley for the rest of the season without any kind of permanent option in the summer.

Roberts is already well known to a lot of players already at Leeds, playing with Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and Joe Rodon on the international stage with Wales, as well as at Swansea City with the latter two.

The 28-year-old is a player who was linked with Leeds pretty much ever since Djed Spence was sent back to Tottenham, and it became clear straight away that he was keen on a move to Elland Road.

And now speaking in an interview with the Athletic upon the announcement of his signing, Roberts has claimed he’s told so many teammates in the past that Leeds is a club he’d love to play for.

He said: “I can honestly say that I’ve said to a lot of players ‘I’d love to play for Leeds’ and a lot of them have said ‘you probably are a Leeds player as well’ because I like getting in a scrap.”

Roberts should fit right in at Leeds straight away with how familiar he is with some of the players already here, and hopefully that is reflected in his performances on the pitch.

He has already admitted his desire to stay at the club beyond this summer, with his original loan deal not including either an option or obligation to buy.

Leeds supporters will very much enjoy him if what he has said in his first interview is reflected on the pitch in terms of his effort levels, but clearly he is also full of quality at this level.

Roberts was named in the Championship team of the season last year and also scored the goal that secured Burnley promotion back to the Premier League. The same again would be nice.
