25-year-old has not even made the bench since club stopped him joining Leeds United on deadline day

Leeds United made a few attempts to sign a new centre-back on deadline day but were ultimately left empty handed.

The Whites had been in the market for one though in the end Connor Roberts became the club’s only signing of the window, joining on loan from Burnley in the final hour of deadline day.

However, at one stage during January it had looked highly like Charlie Cresswell would be departing after issues with his attitude, which have now been resolved.

Pascal Struijk’s injury has also taken considerably longer to heal than expected and he is approaching two months out, having still yet to make his return to training.

With that in mind, Leeds assessed the market for a number of options including Ben Godfrey, Joe Worrall and Harry Souttar. Unfortunately, Leeds were unable to get any of those deals over the line.

Souttar can’t even make Leicester bench

Godfrey had looked likely to leave Everton at one stage during the final week of the window, but has since found himself back in Sean Dyche’s starting XI, meaning a deal was no longer possible.

Leeds, meanwhile, saw a loan offer rejected by Nottingham Forest for Worrall, who has since gone on loan to Turkish side Besiktas to go and play regular football.

The only one of that trio who stayed at their current club was Souttar. The 25-year-old had been attracting interest from Leeds and Sheffield United, and is said to have told his agents on deadline day to hold off on a move to the latter, in favour of Elland Road.

However, Leicester refused to allow Souttar move to a promotion rival and so he ended up staying put, a situation he will undoubtedly be feeling frustrated with.

Since returning from the Asia Cup with Australia, Souttar has failed to make any of Leicester’s three matchday squads, and with players very much ahead of him in the pecking order, that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
