Winners and losers if Douglas Luiz signs for Leeds United this summer include Daniel Farke

The Premier League will provide Leeds United with many obstacles across the season, so the transfer window needs to be a statement from the 49ers.

That’s what the owners could do if Leeds complete the signing of former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz.

Luiz’s camp will offer his services to Leeds as a £30m bargain deal has been mooted, which Daniel Farke would no doubt accept.

It’s unclear how the Juventus player would feel about a jump to Elland Road, but there is every chance this deal happens.

The fanbase certainly approves of the Brazilian’s arrival, with Luiz being described as an ‘insane signing‘, and this is how the transfer would affect everyone around the club.

The winners from Douglas Luiz joining Leeds United

Daniel Farke

A signing of this pedigree would send a real message to the league, and with the 49ers listening to Farke’s strategy, he’ll get a lot of the plaudits.

Luiz has proven he can flourish on the Premier League stage, and Farke could easily get the best out of him through his attacking football at Leeds, which prides itself on work rate, as the Brazilian has that in abundance.

The signing of the former Villa man would make not only the Whites squad much better, but it would also make Farke’s job easier than it is.

Alex Moreno

Although he isn’t confirmed to be a player at Elland Road next season, Alex Moreno is firmly on Leeds’ radar.

Not only will Moreno benefit Leeds with Junior Firpo now leaving, but the Spaniard knows Luiz well from their time at Villa.

These rumours could heighten the chance of Moreno joining next season, and with him already knowing how the Brazilian plays, it could be a match made in heaven with their connection.

The 49ers

Although Farke will get some plaudits for making this potential transfer happen, it’s the 49ers who will be able to open the new chapter with a bang.

Fans are still uncertain over the ownership after Paraag Marathe has gone against his wishes, but Luiz’s signing would show the exact sign of ambition fans have been crying out for.

Not only would Luiz’s presence be enough, but a £30m deal would be the perfect example of what the 49ers can build on and tick one of their ‘priority’ boxes with a central midfielder joining.

Losers from Luiz’s potential £30m transfer to Leeds

Brenden Aaronson

Even though Luiz is more suited to a box-to-box role from his time at Villa and Juventus, he has been known to wander into that number ten role.

This will send a major warning to Brenden Aaronson, but the American should already know he’s likely to be replaced with a No. 10 a priority this summer.

14 goal contributions in his last season at Villa Park prove the Brazilian can adopt that position to a tee, and make for an improvement on Aaronson.

Gustavo Hamer

Like Moreno, Gustavo Hamer isn’t a Leeds player, but he will see this move as threatening.

Sheffield United are resigned to losing Hamer, meaning that Leeds could quite easily pinch the midfielder off their rivals, but if Luiz signs, there might not be a need for the Dutchman due to the similarities the duo share, but Luiz does it better.

Both players are also similar in their positions, with Hamer also an option at number ten, but Luiz is clearly the greater transfer for Farke.

Leeds’ wage bill

Of course, signing a player like Luiz will definitely take a hit on the wage bill at the club.

The highest wage at the club is Patrick Bamford on £80,000 a week following Premier League promotion.

But Luiz’s arrival would blow that out of the water, as the Brazilian supposedly earns £100,000 a week over in Turin, which would certainly be a shock to the 49ers due to the difference in wages, which could become a problem.
