Leeds United have to take action as Andrew Omobamidele’s £17.5m teammate could now be made available

In Daniel Farke’s most-recent pre-match press conference, the Leeds United manager suggested he may enter the transfer window to sign a striker and now a brilliant option could be available.

Joe Gelhardt is set for a loan move to Hull City and John Eustace has confirmed Blackburn are interested in signing Patrick Bamford. It means Leeds’ four options up top could be reduced to two, in quick time.

Leeds may have to bring in a replacement as Farke eludes to. The Whites have been linked with a whole host of strikers but it seems Mateusz Klich’s Atlanta United are on pole position for Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Others linked with a move to Leeds include Louie Barry, Dor Turgeman and Mergim Berisha. But perhaps, Chris Wood’s form at Nottingham Forest might have just made the perfect signing become available.

Nottingham Forest striker would be the perfect Leeds signing

According to The Mail, West Ham are interested in Taiwo Awoniyi with the Forest striker only starting two of 15 Premier League appearances this term. The Nigeria ace has been an unused sub on five occasions.

The £17.5m Forest signing had impressed early on during his Forest spell, scoring 10 in his first season after 27 Premier League games. Another six came in his second season at the City Ground with Forest.

But former Leeds man Wood’s form has been incredible this season and it has kept Awoniyi out of the starting line-up. He needs game time and possibly available, Leeds have got to make a move for Awoniyi.

It could possibly see Leeds raid Nottingham Forest twice this month if The Whites do go after Awoniyi, with Andrew Omobamidele also being linked with a move to Leeds and reports say talks are underway.

Jesse Marsch wanted to sign Taiwo Awoniyi before Forest move

A year after his sacking in February 2023, Marsch said that Leeds considered signing Awoniyi before Forest struck to land the former Liverpool striker. But of course, he went to Forest instead of Elland Road.

So clearly, a player Leeds have liked in recent history and The Whites should make a move to resurrect the mistake they made less than three years ago by making a loan move to land the Forest striker this month.

Whether Awoniyi would be open to a drop to the Championship remains to be seen, but if he did join Leeds it is easy to imagine the forward starting over Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph, and scoring goals.
