As this rollercoaster of a season comes to an end there are many candidates for Leeds United’s player of the season.

Daniel Farke and co deserve a serious pat on the back for the work they’ve done to give Leeds their return back to the Premier League.

Farke is set to remain at Leeds despite talks of the German supposedly being sacked, in what would be a harsh reality.

The Whites boss has been a brilliant figure around the club and has nurtured a squad that will hope to compete in the top flight next season.

Of course, improvements will be needed, but one player has stood above all in this extraordinary campaign.

Dan James has been Leeds United’s player of the season

There are many candidates in the squad that could’ve had the crown.

From the Ao Tanaka’s to the Jayden Bogle’s, it’s a tight call to decide who has been the greatest out of such a successful squad.

But it’s obvious, look no further than Dan James.

Despite Joe Rodon being called the stand-out performer, it’s his fellow countryman who has been head and shoulders above everyone.

Of course, statistics aren’t everything but James has ultimately shown he’s been the clear shining light in Farke’s squad this season.

Through his consistent work rate, playing through injuries, creation in the final-third, brilliant finishes and lightning-quick pace, the Welshman has proved his £25m price-tag from Manchester United.

There’s a reason why he’s Neil Warnock’s ‘favourite’ Leeds player, as his commitment to fighting for the badge will be a key tool in the Premier League.

Farke calls James ‘one of the best’ and it’s clear to see why, as the 27-year-old still has so much more to offer.

The moments that have made James’ season at Leeds

After 20 goal contributions last campaign, his willingness to replicate his fortunes have been shown, and now the hope is he can cement himself as a true Premier League player.

The winger is loved around the league for his attitude and ability as David Prutton thinks James is the Championship’s best.

It can be debated but he’s up there, and three big moments stick out for the 27-year-old this season.

An early game of the season vs Sheffield Wednesday was a chance for Leeds to get their first three points of the season after a dismal start.

And this goal sums up James to a tee, as using his pace, he jetted past the Wednesday defence and performed a suculant dink which was ultimately saying success was waiting for the winger this season.

Not only was it a fine finish, but this win set the Whites on a path to glory.

Up next was a stunning strike at Elland Road vs Plymouth Argyle, his edge of the box hit didn’t get the perfect connection, but the way it sailed in was pure brilliance.

Arguably his most important contribution to the season came in the pivotal game at Bramall Lane in February.

Dan James praised Farke’s genius vs Sheffield United, but it was his own genius which set the Whites up for the fantastic comeback.

The winger did what he does best by using his electric pace and floating in a delicate cross for Junior Firpo to equalise, and started their most important win of the season, beating the Blades 3-1.

After some stellar individual performances this season, James has topped the lot.

A momentous campaign. The key difference-maker. It could only be Dan James.
