If I was this Leeds United player, I would be fuming with Daniel Farke after what he did against Millwall

Leeds United suffered their first Championship away defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss at Millwall.

Daniel Farke‘s side dominated the vast majority of the ball but failed to create very little in the way of chances, aside from a brief five-minute period in the first half.

Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto were among Leeds’ poorest performers as nothing in attack seemed to click against a packed out Millwall defence.

Unfortunately, it is a script seen on several occasions under Farke in the Championship when Leeds make these difficult midweek away trips.

Leeds dropped poor points at the likes of Stoke City, Rotherham United, Sunderland and West Brom last season, and Millwall felt like a carbon copy of those performances.

Mateo Joseph should be fuming at Farke after Leeds loss

Farke isn’t one for too much rotation between matches and so after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle, it wasn’t a surprise that Jayden Bogle was the only change following his ban.

However, that doesn’t mean it was right. Farke should’ve brought Mateo Joseph into the starting line-up, but again went with Joel Piroe.

Piroe quite clearly suits home games against the likes of Plymouth where all he needs to do is get in the right place at the right time to finish things off.

Away at a side like Millwall who are packing out the box and more is needed up front to stretch the defence, Piroe simply has no impact.

Instead, Farke opted to keep him on for the entire 90 minutes, bringing Joseph on for the final 10, by which point he had also decided to take the majority of Leeds’ creativity off.

Joseph touched the ball just twice after coming on, one of which was when he almost stuck the ball in his own net defending a set-piece.

Farke didn’t give Joseph anywhere near enough time to change the game and as such, the Spaniard should be fuming in that dressing room post-match. Those Millwall centre-backs couldn’t have asked for an easier night.

Farke needs to make changes in Leeds vs QPR

With a short turnaround to Saturday’s game against QPR, Farke needs to rotate his Leeds starting line-up.

James and Gnonto were both really poor and Manor Solomon should come in for one of them, after looking fairly bright in his cameo.

Joseph hasn’t started since a 1-1 draw at Norwich City before the international break and deserves to start if not only to restore his confidence.
