Leeds United player ratings from dour Millwall defeat as attacking duo flop with 4/10

Leeds United suffered just their second defeat of the Championship season at Millwall in what was a very abject display on the road. Here are our player ratings.

Illan Meslier – 6

Hard to pin the blame on him for the goal but it is becoming frustrating how often Leeds seem to concede their first meaningful shot on target in so many matches.

Jayden Bogle – 5

A decent battle with Duncan Watmore down his side in the first half which he coped fairly well with. However, was poor going forward.

Joe Rodon – 6

Neat and tidy on the ball and dealt with the physical challenge posed by Millwall throughout. Didn’t really have an awful lot to do.

Pascal Struijk – 6

It was a harsh handball given against Struijk for Millwall’s goal, though the blame certainly can’t be pinned on him for that. A bit like Rodon, not much to do in open play.

Junior Firpo – 5

Caught maybe a little flat-footed for Millwall’s opening goal but not an awful lot he could’ve done really. Saw plenty of possession in attack, without really threatening.

Ao Tanaka – 7

Probably Leeds’ stand-out performer again as his ability to pick up second balls helped sustain some of the pressure. As usual, kept the ball nicely.

Joe Rothwell – 6

Set-piece deliveries weren’t overly impressive and although he buzzed about pretty well in midfield, was unable to find those incisive forward passes.

Dan James – 4

Leeds didn’t use the right-hand-side too often when attacking but James did look pretty dangerous in the first half, before fading badly after the break. Volley at the end summed him up.

Brenden Aaronson – 6

Got on the ball a lot but not really in areas that were capable of hurting the home side, though that was predominantly due to how deep Millwall were playing.

Wilfried Gnonto – 4

Of Leeds’ attacking players, it was Gnonto seeing the majority of the ball but nothing he did seemed to come off. Should’ve opened the scoring at 0-0 in the first half.

Joel Piroe – 5

Showed a couple of neat touches early on but again, was barely involved. It’s difficult to understand how Daniel Farke hasn’t learned these sort of away games just don’t suit Piroe yet, 15 months after signing him.
