Leeds United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Millwall on Wednesday night as they lost their unbeaten run of seven games at The Den, while Millwall clocked up a fourth consecutive 1-0 win.

Coming into the game, Millwall were in excellent form. Three consecutive wins, three clean sheets and on Wednesday night, they made that four on both counts despite facing a Leeds side in good form as well.

Leeds dominated possession as Daniel Farke made one change, bringing Jayden Bogle back into the line-up in place of Sam Byram after he has deserved his one-match suspension. But Millwall took the lead.

Leeds failed to deal with set-pieces throughout and it was a Jake Cooper header that set up his centre-back partner in Japhet Tanganga, who excellently flicked the ball into the corner, on the volley.

Gary Rowett on Joel Piroe’s disallowed Leeds United goal

Just after the hour mark, Leeds thought they had found themselves an equaliser. Bogle swung in a cross, and after a little touch from Dan James, Piroe swept home a right-footed shot past stopper Lukas Jensen.

Gary Rowett was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports on Wednesday and he said, a few moments later in the 68th minute, Rowett said he felt the officials and the linesman made the right decision to disallow.

“He just creeps doesn’t he. He’s anticipating the ball from Aaronson, he doesn’t expect James/Aaronson to get a toe on it and he’s just caught offside. It’s the right decision,” Rowett says, discussing Piroe’s goal.

Jon Newsome also commented on Joel Piroe’s disallowed goal

Leeds’ social media team were not as sure as Rowett, reporting the goal on X by saying that replays suggested Piroe’s goal was onside. But the touch from James is crucial, and Piroe had started his run.

Jon Newsome was in attendance at The Den and he told BBC Radio Leeds that while he was unsure if it was a goal, he was impressed with the build-up play that saw Bogle swing in an early cross into the box.

“I really liked that move because the delivery was first time, and it was exactly into the right area. I’m not sure if it was offside but I’m glad we’re creating something,” former Leeds man Newsome remarked.
