Jobi McAnuff believes Leeds United are the team under more pressure ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Ipswich Town.
Leeds go into the game 10 points behind the Tractor Boys in second place, having failed to win either of their last two matches against Sunderland and Coventry City.
McAnuff’s fellow Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe believes Leeds will be ‘worried’ about facing Ipswich at Elland Road on Saturday, having made a record breaking start to the season after promotion from League One.
Speaking on Sky Sports after Leicester City’s 3-2 win at Birmingham City on Monday, McAnuff says Leeds will be feeling the pressure and cannot afford to pass up opportunities to close the gap.
He said: “Certainly when an opportunity to close that gap, you have to take them when they come. Leeds being that chasing team now there is almost that extra pressure because you know you can’t afford to keep dropping those points when the lead is as big as it is.
“Pressure on them but it’s about how they respond and they need to get that win to get to second place.”
Leeds need a win on Saturday
Daniel Farke may not admit it publicly, but Leeds cannot afford to lose on Saturday and fall 13 points adrift of Ipswich in second place, even at this point of the season.
Ipswich have shown no signs that they will go on too many winless runs over the course of the season, which makes a gap such as that almost impossible to claw back.
Ethan Ampadu has recently spoke about how he is not concerned about the gap at this stage, while Wales international teammate Joe Rodon has also echoed that statement.
However, deep down they will know that if Leeds have any chance of making automatic promotion, then the gap can’t afford to get away from them.
Hopefully that is reflected in Leeds’ performance on Saturday and they come out firing with a big performance to get the win.
