‘Not a worry’… Joe Rodon says there’s something he is not at all concerned about at Leeds United

Joe Rodon has discussed catching both Ipswich Town and Leicester City as Leeds United fall even further behind the Championship’s top two – after failing to win in our last two League games.

Leeds are now 10 points behind second-placed Ipswich, and 13 behind leaders Leicester. We have done well so far, 42 points from 22 league games – but it is just Ipswich and Leicester are on absolute fire.

So, can they be caught? Well, Leeds defender Rodon thinks so. There is still 24 games to play, and a possible 72 points to win. Leeds could still go and win a massive 114 points. Unlikely, but it is possible.

The weekend saw Leeds draw with Coventry, not losing any points to Ipswich who drew with Coventry – but, Leicester beat Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham. Leeds now take on Ipswich, on Saturday lunchtime.

Rodon told Leeds Live that while there is a gap, he is confident that Leeds are still capable of catching the two teams sitting at the top of the Championship table. A win against Ipswich would be a good start.

“It’s not a worry,” Rodon said, when asked about Ipswich and Leicester sitting so far ahead of Leeds. “There’s a lot of games in this league and all we can do is keep trying to perform really high.

“Putting three points on the board. We can’t look too far ahead, we’ve got to take each game as it comes. All we can do is keep improving each week and hopefully, that will be enough,” Rodon added.

While Rodon is certain that the top two can still be caught, there is one uncertainty that is beginning to edge into the corner of the room. It is his long-term future, whether that be at Leeds – or Tottenham.

Even he does not know if he will sign on. Reports state that Tottenham are open to his exit but want a fee of £20m for him. Perhaps, that fee will reduce next summer, when he is in the last year of his deal.

For now, Leeds fans will just have to enjoy Rodon as every game passes, in the hunt for promotion. Securing a place in the Premier League next season may just help Leeds nab his long-term signature.
