Joe Rodon is valued at a huge fee of £20m by Tottenham Hotspur as things stand with the Wales defender shining on loan at Leeds United – but he could be a whole lot cheaper, come next summer.

Rodon, 26, has starred in a Leeds shirt. The Spurs and Wales defender has become one of the first names on the team sheet. Little surprise, then, that Leeds will be looking at a permanent move for him.

Tottenham want £20m for a player they only spent £15m on, three years ago – as per TeamTalk. Since he joined Spurs from Swansea back in 2020, Rodon has struggled at Spurs and then on loan at Rennes.

But Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain and he is keen to rake in a £5m profit on Rodon. However, Leeds need to remain patient. While interest may generate as we stall – his value will be cheaper next summer.

That is because Rodon’s contract at Spurs will expire in the summer of 2025. Come next summer, the defender will have entered the final year of his contract and Spurs will have to take that into account.

For a player that has not made it at their club, it will surely be too much to request a fee north of the amount they paid initially. Leeds then, have to simply sit tight and wait until the end of the season.

Yes, getting a deal for Rodon permanently makes sense and doing it quickly eliminates the doubt. But splashing £20m on Rodon, when it is unclear if the club will be in the Championship or not, is a risk.

Waiting until we know which division we are in next summer, and being able to get Rodon for what will surely be a smaller fee, in less than nine months makes much more sense. Aim of the game is patience.
