Joe Rodon says he does not not know yet whether he will sign for Leeds United permanently.
Rodon is now almost halfway through a season-long-loan move from Tottenham Hotspur and calls over him signing on a permanent deal have been growing thanks to his performances.
BBC pundit Jon Newsome has already urged Leeds to make an offer to get a deal done as early as January, while club and international teammate Ethan Ampadu has done the same.
But speaking in an interview with Leeds Live, Rodon has been unable to confirm either way, but says he is definitely here until the end of the season, eliminating the prospect of an early recall.
He said: “I can’t answer that question. All I can focus on is the next game and see what happens. Of course [I’m here for the season] and my job is to give everything and try and be as successful as I possibly can with this team, this club.”
Leeds need to complete Rodon permanent deal
With the level of his performances this season, it would not be a surprise if Premier League clubs were already monitoring him ahead of the summer, which would make a January deal tough.
Football London journalist Alasdair Gold believes Leeds could look to set up a permanent deal in January, but whether that is just provisionally ahead of January, is another question.
Rodon has formed a really strong partnership in central defence with Pascal Struijk, with the respective styles of defending very complimentary to one another.
Struijk is someone who reads the game well, while Rodon has that recovery pace and ability to throw his body on the line in crucial moments, a bit like against Middlesbrough earlier this month.
Regardless of whether Leeds are promoted or not, hopefully they can complete a permanent deal for Rodon, but it will be a whole lot tougher if they are still in the Championship.
