‘No doubt’… Journalist says Leeds United could now look to sign 26-year-old permanently in January

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold believes Leeds United could look to set up a permanent deal for Joe Rodon in January.

Rodon moved to Elland Road on a season-long-loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and has proved to be an outstanding signing at the back.

However, no option-to-buy was included in the deal to bring Rodon to Leeds but given the level of his performances, there has already been talk that the Whites need to tie up a permanent agreement.

And speaking on the latest episode of the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Leeds could look to get that done as early as January, even if it is for the end of the season.

Gold had mooted the possibility of a recall when the window reopens due to Spurs’ current defensive crisis, but Daniel Farke has already confirmed that he will be going no where.

Leeds should look to tie up Rodon agreement

Speaking on Rodon’s situation, Gold says if he was in the Welshman’s shoes, he would not want a return to Spurs and would not at all be surprised if Leeds signed him up permanently.

“I think for Joe Rodon, if I’m Joe Rodon I wouldn’t even want to go back to Spurs anyway. He’s been smashing it at Leeds and I’ve no doubt they want to keep him.

“I wouldn’t be shocked in January if they tried to set up a deal to sign him permanently whether that’s at the end of the season or something, he’s just been phenomenal for them.”

Farke has already suggested that January will be a calm window for Leeds, but on top of keeping their key players, signing Rodon permanently should be a priority.

Leeds could receive some cash through the potential permanent sale of Marc Roca and you would imagine Rodon would cost somewhere in the region of what the Spaniard will leave for.

Even if Leeds were not to get promoted, they would then have one of the league’s best centre-backs in the squad for next season, which would already put them in a good position.
