Leigh Bromby has shared what Daniel Farke did on Saturday that proved to be the biggest surprise for him as Leeds United drew with Coventry City at Elland Road.

For the first time since August, Leeds have now failed to win in back-to-back games. The Whites followed their hugely disappointing showing at Sunderland in midweek with an underwhelming display against the Sky Blues.

Of course, it is too soon to panic. Leeds remain third in the table ahead of next weekend’s crucial clash with Ipswich Town. But some fans understandably have a couple of questions of Daniel Farke.

There is absolutely no doubt that Farke has an amazing squad at his disposal, particularly in forward areas. Crysencio Summerville is arguably the best player in the Championship. Meanwhile, Georginio Rutter is capable of the sublime.

But Farke has now looked to run out of ideas in the last two games. And what he has tended to do is throw more attackers on in the hope that they can help break down a well-drilled side.

Willy Gnonto and Patrick Bamford came on with 12 minutes of normal time remaining yesterday. And Joe Gelhardt joined them on the pitch seven minutes later.

And Leigh Bromby told BBC Radio Leeds that he was not entirely sure what Farke was trying to do with the changes he made.

“The biggest surprise for me today of coming here was the subs,” he said.

“I’ve not been here, but listening to you guys before about it’s always 75 minutes, which it was, and then the way the subs were made surprised me. With a head coach that’s so clear on what he wants, it seemed so random.”

Substitutes not making an impact right now

It would be ridiculous to ask questions of Farke’s position after two disappointing results. Leicester won one and lost two of their four games in November. Teams are going to go on poor runs.

However, it is fair to say that we need to see more from the manager. Leeds have the attacking quality to blow any team in the division away. And yet, we have now seen Rotherham, Sunderland and Coventry nullify a lot of that quality in recent weeks.

Throwing more and more attacking players on does not appear to be working.

Leeds have not had a substitute score since Jaidon Anthony against Watford in September. So something definitely needs to change.
