Colchester United manager Danny Cowley has been left in awe watching one Leeds United player in action this season.
The Whites have several players who could all stake a claim for the club’s Player of the Season award come May, with Crysencio Summerville, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Georginio Rutter among them.
But there is arguably one who has a stronger case than them all and that is Summerville, who has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in the Championship so far this season.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke believes Summerville has the potential to go right to the very top and it would seem former Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth manager Cowley agrees.
Speaking on the latest episode of BBC’s Football Daily Podcast, Cowley says he has been left wowed by Summerville’s performances this season, with Jobi McAnuff agreeing.
Cowley left blown away by Summerville
Cowley said: “How good is Summerville by the way, wow, what a player.”
McAnuff then responded: “To keep hold of him in January I am sure there will have been multiple bids for him but that shows the belief in what they’ve got going on there. His value will be going through the roof week on week. They have got themselves a top asset.
“He is one of those, you talk about Dewsbury-Hall this season, Morgan Whittaker at Plymouth has been outstanding, Jack Clarke. Summerville for me is in that category of players of the season. He’s been magnificent.”
Summerville has just continued to get better and better this season and his improvement has been clear for all to see having been made the main at Leeds under Farke.
He is well on course to hit 20 goals this season and his assist numbers aren’t bad either. His finishing is something he has been working hard at on the training pitch, which has been evident to see.
Summerville will more than likely be a Premier League player next season regardless of what happens this season but hopefully it is with Leeds that he can get back to the big time.
