Crysencio Summerville says he wanted to become Leeds United’s main main the moment relegation was confirmed back in May.
The 22-year-old had been expected to leave Leeds throughout the summer but ended up staying and has since seen his performances go from strength to strength.
With nine goals and six assists already, only Adam Armstrong and Sammie Szmodics have more goal contributions in the Championship this season, an impressive feat for someone playing as a winger.
But speaking on the latest episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast, Summerville says this is exactly what he wanted to do since relegation, which signalled a change in his ‘mindset’.
He said: “I speak a lot with people but I set the tone for myself. I say, ‘Ok Cree, you have to be the best version of yourself and grow.’ I am 22 now and something needs to happen.
“I set levels and goals for myself, I want to be the main man at Leeds United and get the team promoted with my teammates. My mindset changed when we went down, this is just the beginning. More to come.”
Summerville Leeds’ main man
Summerville had looked destined for the exit door in the summer but clearly it was never as cut and dry as some reports were making out.
Speaking recently, Summerville says after conversations fairly early on in the window with his agent, it became clear that staying at Leeds would be the best for him.
Daniel Farke also made sure when he came in that he stayed, as he clearly saw the potential for him to become the main man at Elland Road.
Interest ended up being rejected from numerous Premier League clubs with Summerville keen on returning back to the top, with Leeds.
Hopefully Leeds have no issues in keeping him in the January transfer window and he just continues this form for the rest of the season.
