Graham Smyth has written on the Yorkshire Evening Post’s site that many at Leeds United ‘expected’ Crysencio Summerville to leave Elland Road in the summer – but his decision to stay ‘surprised’ a few.
Summerville, 21, has been one of our best players this season. Starring at Cardiff with a goal and an assist – he was benched last night, but came on after 21 minutes with Willy Gnonto suffering an injury.
He was incredibly unlucky to see a rasping effort from 22 yards, destined for the top corner, to be plucked out of the air by Ryan Allsopp and tipped round the post for a corner. He will be key this term.

With the likes of Gnonto trying to go, Luis Sinisterra leaving and plenty of others departing – Smyth reports that some at Leeds ‘expected’, over ‘feared’ Summerville would go. But, he went against the tide.
Indeed, Summerville decided to stay put at Leeds. That is despite Burnley tabling an offer in the latter stages of the window, worth £20m – as per Fabrizio Romano. He seems focused on playing for Leeds.
“A summer departure was feared if not expected by some at Leeds. As others jumped ship and top flight sharks circled, Summerville’s decision to swim against the tide was a welcome surprise,” Smyth said.

Smyth: Many at Leeds expected Summerville to leave the club
It is a real boost to have the likes of Summerville, Gnonto, Georginio Rutter remain. Premier League standard players in the Championship. If we are going to go straight back up – they will be pivotal.
This will also be a big season for Summerville’s development. It must also be remembered that he has only played 45 times at senior level – starting only 20 times. He is still in the infancy of his senior career.
