Fabrizio Romano has reported that Premier League new boys Burnley have tabled a £20m bid for Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville in the past couple of days – but the offer was rejected by the Whites.

Summerville, 21, has only managed to play in two of our six matches this season. He got off to a flyer, a goal and an assist in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff. But he picked up an injury – ruling him out until Tuesday.

He was probably our best lpayer against Salford and scored in the penalty shootout – having hit the post beforehand. The Dutch ace has a deal until 2026 – but is clearly a player with premier League potential.

Little surprise then, that there has been interest in him during the summer window. Romano reported on Thursday evening that Burnley and Vincent Kompany tabled a £20m bid to land Summerville. Rejected.

Romano: Burnley table £20m bid for Leeds star Summerville

Right decision, by The 49ers. Summerville is arguably going to be our most crucial player this season. Luis Sinisterra is wonderful, Willy Gnonto is a wonderkid – but Sini is often injured, Gnonto still learning.

Ethan Ampadu is reliable, Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk will be key. But in a league where Leeds will dominate with the ball and be asked the question of breaking defences down, Summerville is pivotal.

Gnonto and Sinisterra are better getting on the end of things. As is Joel Piroe. Summerville can do both. He is one that can create magic inside a phone box. Keeping Summerville is key to our promotion push.

Whether Leeds are busy on deadline day remains to be seen. The club have brought in Djed Spence, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev in the last 48 hours. A no.10 and a left-back are still in need of improvement.
