Leeds United’s win over Cardiff City keeps them in 1st place of the Championship table, and maintains their unbeaten start to 2025 too.

Leeds United are in fine form right now. Despite that bore draw against Burnley in the outing before Cardiff City, Leeds have been easing past opponents in the Championship.

Daniel Farke’s side are unbeaten in 2025 and unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions too, after thumping Cardiff City 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Firpo shone for Leeds United as he made his first start since December. He bagged three assists in the game, Joel Piroe scored twice and all of Dan James, Manor Solomon, Mateo Joseph, Wilfried Gnonto and Brenden Aaronson got on the scoresheet.

Farke’s substitutions against Cardiff kept the heat on a sorry-looking Bluebirds side. Gnonto and Joseph both came off the bench to score, but Largie Ramazani couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet.

Largie Ramazani goal vs Cardiff City would’ve been cherry on top for Leeds United

Speaking to Leeds Live after the game, Farke was full of raise for his players. But he rued the fact that summer signing Ramazani couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet along with the rest.

The Leeds boss said: “Ramazani was missing! He was so motivated to score but when I look at Joel Piroe. He won the ball in our box then sprinted to give the second-last pass for the first goal. Same for the second goal.

“Delighted for Willy and Joseph. It would’ve been perfect if Largie chopped in with a goal! I told him after in a 7-0 win it isn’t that important to score. Maybe another day its even more crucial he scored. For that he should not be too down.”

Daniel Farke is desperate for Largie Ramazani to succeed

During the summer transfer window, Leeds signed Ramazani from Almeria in a £10million deal. He’s had mixed fortunes since however, with four goals and two assists in 19 Championship outings for the Whites.

Recently, Farke spoke about Ramazani’s Leeds situation and revealed that he’d held talks with the 23-year-old behind the scenes at Elland Road.

Farke said: “Delighted for him because I was a bit critical after his injury. Short cameos when he came back in were not convincing.

“We spoke openly and honestly about this. In the last game, a good goal – important for his confidence. A goal and an assist today will certainly do his confidence no harm, great guy. It is good that Largie is back.”

That was after Ramazani scored and assisted in the win over Sheffield Wednesday earlier in January. A goal against Cardiff could really have been the springboard for the Belgian to make a claim for a starting spot.

Though with James and Solomon in fine form, Ramazani might be limited to the bench for a while longer yet.
