Leeds United look as though they have signing number 8 through the doors, with reports that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has agreed a move to Elland Road.
All summer long, Leeds United have needed new strikers. Daniel Farke has signed one so far in Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer after he was released by Wolfsburg, but much more is needed, especially so after Mateo Joseph joined RCD Mallorca on loan.
There’s also Patrick Bamford who’s been completely exiled from the first team, and now looks set to leave the club at some point this summer.
Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in demand throughout the pre-season. The 28-year-old was released by Everton, and recent reports revealed how Leeds United were in talks to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.
Then, on Wednesday, it was reported that a deal was agreed.

Leeds United agree deal to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
On Wednesday morning, journalist David Ornstein revealed that Leeds United have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer. He adds that the former England player is due to arrive at Thorp Arch ‘imminently’ to undergo a medical before completing a move to Elland Road.
Interestingly, journalist Ben Jacobs soon weighed in on the matter. He revealed that Calvert-Lewin actually turned down a move to Premier League rivals Sunderland before agreeing terms over a move to Leeds United. It’s a small win for Leeds who have been beaten to the punch by Sunderland in a number of transfer battles so far this summer.
Sunderland vs Leeds United in the summer transfer window
Like Leeds, Sunderland have made a number of signings so far this summer, having also spent good amounts of money in readying themselves for the Premier League. Sunderland though have spent quite a bit more than Leeds so far, with reports putting their summer spending total closer towards the £100m mark compared to Leeds United’s near £80m.
The marquee signing for Sunderland this summer was Habib Diarra. Sunderland beat Leeds United in the race to sign Diarra from Strasbourg, also beating the Whites in the race to sign Noah Sadiki and Reinildo Mandava, who joined on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid. More recently, Leeds United transfer target Mark Guiu joined Sunderland on loan from Chelsea.
| Name of Sunderland signing | Signed from | Transfer type |

But Leeds finally have another striker signing through the door. Whilst Calvert-Lewin may split opinion, he’s certainly a proven striker, and if his wage demands aren’t sky high, it could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Whites.
That said, Leeds United still have money and still have a need for a marquee striker signing this summer. Rodrigo Muniz remains the number one target, but a move for the Brazilian seems to be stalling as things stand.
