Leeds United are set to complete their eighth signing of the summer transfer window and finally bring in another striker, but it is one that is likely to divide supporters.

It has been almost three weeks since Leeds managed to make a new signing. The Whites brought in Lucas Perri, the club’s seventh addition of the transfer window, on July 26. But no arrivals have followed Perri.

That is despite Leeds’ pursuit of Igor Paixao, with Paixao eventually joining Marseille. Leeds remain interested in Rodrigo Muniz at Fulham, but with the season about to begin, evasive action was required.

Leeds are expected to make four signings between now and the end of the season and it appears the club are set to sort out a deal for one of those, with the signing of England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

David Ornstein confirms Leeds are signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin has been loosely linked with Leeds for much of the summer, with his Everton deal expiring at the end of last season. A proven Premier League goalscorer, but one also renowned for his injuries.

It has been a difficult few years for Calvert-Lewin, struggling to remain fit and gather any rhythm since his glorious spell under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton. But, Leeds have chosen to take a chance on Calvert-Lewin.

David Ornstein reports on The Athletic’s website that Leeds have now agreed a move to sign the striker, after he confirmed he was leaving Everton on a free. A medical for Calvert-Lewin is deemed ‘imminent’.

Leeds v Everton clash takes another twist with sub-plots growing

Next Monday’s Premier League opener already boasts many subplots. The return of Angus Kinnear at the very first opportunity, the much-jeered Jack Grealish and of course, Jack Harrison facing his Everton pals.

Now, Calvert-Lewin could be involved for Leeds against a side he spent nine years with. The chances of Calvert-Lewin starting remains to be seen given he has not had a pre-season, even if he has stayed fit.

But he could well be on the bench for Leeds when they go up against David Moyes’ side. Football works in funny ways and it would be typical of both Leeds and Everton if he came on to score for Leeds.
