Tottenham set to send out 24-year-old on loan to the Championship, he could be ideal for Leeds United

Leeds United are primarily targeting the Premier League loan market in their quest to strengthen this month.

The Whites are yet to bring in any new players so far in January but are willing to be patient in order to secure their number one targets, with a few positions in need of bolstering.

Both full-back areas could do with adding to, while a new centre-back will be needed if Charlie Cresswell departs as expected. Another creative attacker would be nice too.

Thanks to the appointment of former Spurs performance director Gretar Steinsson, as well as Angus Kinnear’s relationship with Daniel Levy, Leeds and Tottenham have developed a good partnership over the last few months, and it could be put to use again.

Though Djed Spence’s loan did not work out, Joe Rodon has been phenomenal since moving to Elland Road and Leeds should look to move on another of Spurs’ fringe defenders.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are set to recall Japhet Tanganga from a spell at Augsburg, and loan him straight back out to the Championship.

Leeds should move for Tanganga

Given that Leeds need both a right-back and potentially central defender, Tanganga would be the ideal signing as he is more than capable of playing both positions.

In his 50 senior appearances for Spurs, Tanganga has played a very similar number of matches across both positions, showing how versatile he can be.

This would then provide Leeds with adequate cover across the right side of their defence, and given that they only have three loan spots left, also enables them to use it for an attacker, and left-back.

Junior Firpo has enjoyed his best run in the side all season since the turn of the New Year and with his strengths very much in attack – as shown with three assists in three matches – a more defensive minded right-back like Tanganga would complement him well.

His signing would also very much take the pressure off 17-year-old Archie Gray, with the loss of both Luke Ayling and Spence having intensified the need for him to start every week.
