Leeds United are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table despite failing to beat Blackburn on Wednesday, and morale is high among the players in Daniel Farke’s squad.
The only side to reach the 50-point mark after 25 games, Leeds remain three ahead of second place with Burnley leapfrogging Sheffield United after Sunderland beat Chris Wilder’s side on Wednesday evening.
Leeds are now seven Championship games unbeaten ahead of Saturday’s short trip to Hull City, winning five of those matches and keeping four clean sheets in that run. Farke’s side have also scored 14 goals.
Clearly, the feeling among the Leeds squad is a good one even after Manor Solomon reacted angrily to being subbed on Wednesday. That feel-good factor has resulted in some teasing of defender Sam Byram.
Leeds squad have been teasing “teacher’s pet” Sam Byram
It is well-renowned that the Leeds players often think of 31-year-old defender Byram as a teacher’s pet, even if he is simply an excellent trainer. Daniel Farke says Byram has exceeded his expectation at Leeds.
Ahead of Saturday’s game, Michael Bridges described Byram as a “teacher’s pet” before LUTV presenter Thom Kirwin said the Leeds squad have teased him by saying he has been to boss Farke’s for Christmas.
Former Leeds striker Bridges said: “He’s a lovely lad. We give him some stick and say he is Daniel Farke’s teacher’s pet, but he’d be my teacher’s pet because if I was manager I know I could rely on him.”
Presenter Thom Kirwin then said, in reply to Bridges about Byram: “I think a few of the lads were joking he was spending Christmas with Daniel Farke, round at his house on Christmas Day.”
Daniel Farke provided an update on Sam Byram after Blackburn
Byram has now surpassed 200 appearances for Leeds after starting the last six games in a row, with Junior Firpo sidelined. Firpo is expected back in training next week, while Farke also gave an update on Byram.
He says that Byram came off at half-time due to illness, but he should be okay for Hull and the same goes for Jayden Bogle. So, by this time next week, Farke could have his full compliment of full-backs available.
