Leeds United have addressed speculation that Dan James could miss a significant period through injury after suffering a setback in training.

Dan James missed Leeds’ trip to Wolves and was an unused substitute in the draw with Bournemouth as he appeared to be edging closer to a return from injury.

Reports suggested that James could be set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines after picking up a new injury in training.

However, Craig Bellamy named James in his Wales squad for their upcoming games against England and Belgium, stating that the winger would be assessed before any decision was made over his involvement.

Now, the club have addressed James’ potential absence, allaying the worst fears that he could miss a significant period of the Premier League season.

Leeds United address Dan James injury concerns

Leeds United have confirmed that James is currently undergoing assessment on an ankle injury, but have stressed that it is not thought to be serious.

In a post on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post shared an update from the club which aimed to end the speculation over James’ fitness.

The short statement read: “Daniel James has an ankle issue which is currently undergoing assessment. Any absence is not expected to be long-term.”

With Daniel Farke set to address the media in his weekly press conference ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (2nd October), fans will be keen to learn the full extent of his potential lay-off.

Which Premier League games could Dan James miss?

In an earlier report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth suggested that James could miss up to six weeks with his latest ankle injury.

Leeds are entering into a crucial period of their season, with several winnable fixtures against potential relegation rivals in October, although the international break could help to minimise the impact on the Whites.

The games Dan James could miss through injury:

Barring an unexpected announcement on Thursday, James is almost certain to miss the game against Tottenham this weekend, as Leeds look to maintain their unbeaten record at Elland Road.

A six-week recovery period would rule James out until the middle of November. As a result, he could miss the games against Burnley, West Ham, Brighton and Nottingham Forest, potentially returning for the home game against Aston Villa on the 23rd November.
