Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson believes one Leeds United hero was robbed of “icon” status in the draw against Manchester United.
Daniel Farke appeared to be on course to become the first Leeds manager since Grayson to secure a win against Leeds’ old rivals as his side took a second half lead against Man United.
However, a goal from Matheus Cunha three minutes later cancelled out Leeds’ opener and prompted Farke to criticise goalkeeper Lucas Perri after the game.
Leeds midfielder Brenden Aaronson was the man who gave his side the lead with a neat left-footed finish from inside the penalty area, and Grayson expressed his sympathy for Aaronson after the game as he was denied a place in the club’s history books.

Brenden Aaronson was immense once again 🔥

Speaking to LUTV after Leeds’ draw against Man United, Grayson praised Leeds midfielder Aaronson after he produced another impressive display.
According to Grayson, Aaronson has now added the end-product to his game that Leeds fans craved for so long, even if he was robbed of iconic status after his goal was cancelled out by Cunha.
Grayson said: “[He shows] composure when he gets through in those areas. It was just a nothing ball really down the side, down the channel. But this is what he does, he chases lost causes.
“He catches the Man United defence off guard and once he’s in those areas it’s quite easy to hit the goalkeeper, miscue it or whatever, but he’s found the bottom far corner with a really accurate finish.

“The last few weeks, he’s shown, I think, what he’s capable of doing. We all know about his enthusiasm and his work rate, but he’s actually added now assists and goals and, if it had stayed at 1 -0, he’d have become certainly an icon of this football club, wouldn’t he?”

Brenden Aaronson is quietly becoming undroppable for Leeds United
Few could have predicted how far Aaronson would have come this season, as the American was so often scapegoated by Leeds fans.
Things reached a nadir when Aaronson missed a big chance in Leeds’ defeat against Burnley, as fans came close to losing patience with the midfielder.
Is Brenden Aaronson our best player at the moment? 🔥
However, having shone in the game against West Ham, and won man of the match for his display against Crystal Palace, Aaronson produced another impressive performance in the draw against Man United.
The USA international looks eminently more comfortable in the number eight role he has occupied in recent weeks. With Leeds’ options in midfield looking stretched, Aaronson is quietly proving to be one of Farke’s most important players this season.
