Leeds United fans have all pointed the finger of blame at Brenden Aaronson after his miss in the first half of the worrying Premier League defeat against Burnley.

Daniel Farke will be disappointed with the way in which his Leeds side surrendered the initiative midway through the first half of their clash against Burnley, as the home side took the lead through Lesley Ugochukwu.

Leeds fell behind in the 18th minute as the French midfielder found himself in space in the box, having drifted away from Pascal Struijk to head home Kyle Walker’s cross.

The Whites’ misery was then compounded minutes later when Brenden Aaronson failed to convert a glorious chance, firing straight at Martin Dubravka with only the keeper to beat.

Fans wasted no time in directing their frustration towards the American after he failed to pull Leeds level in the crucial Premier League clash.

Leeds United fans hit out at Brenden Aaronson for Burnley miss

Posting on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), Leeds fans voiced their frustration at the Leeds winger, as the Whites struggled to make inroads without the injured Noah Okafor.

One fan claimed that Farke needs to realise Aaronson could cost him his job, posting: “At some point, Farke has to realise that sticking by the likes of Aaronson, Harrison and Meslier are going to cost him his job.”

Another fan claimed that the club needs to accept that Aaronson is not playing at the required standard, stating: “Can we just accept Aaronson isn’t good enough?”

Aaronson produced a tame effort whilst in acres of space in the box, and one fan lamented his soft effort, writing: “Never any conviction in an Aaronson ‘finish’ just simply not capable of putting his foot through it and making sure.”

One fan described Aaronson’s shot as “one of the chances of the season”, writing: “Brendan Aaronson misses one of the chances of the season for Leeds so far… Dubravka gets down to it and tips it onto the post. Burnley 1-0 Leeds.”

While another Leeds fan argued that Aaronson should lose his place after the miss, stating: “And that miss right there should get Aaronson dropped, he’s garbage.”

Leeds United are developing a worrying trend

According to the stats from FotMob, Leeds had the better of the first half against the Clarets, enjoying 65% of the possession, generating an xG of 0.52 to Burnley’s 0.43.

However, Burnley took their best chance, thanks in part to some questionable distribution from Karl Darlow and poor marking from Struijk and Anton Stach. Stach was also guilty of switching off for Burnley’s second goal, as he failed to track Loum Tchaouna’s run.

Burnley’s goal also means that Leeds are developing another worrying habit, having conceded the opening goal in their last four games, and in all four away games so far this season.

Farke’s side are known to lack a cutting edge. They cannot afford to keep handing teams a leg up, particularly in games against their relegation rivals.
