Leeds United have finally signed Sean Longstaff, who arrives on a four-year deal from Newcastle United.

Leeds United have signing number five through the Elland Road doors, and it’s someone who Daniel Farke has wanted for a long time.

Sean Longstaff joins on a four-year deal after a week of back and forth between Leeds and his hometown club Newcastle United.

In the end, Leeds agreed a £15million deal to sign Longstaff, who joins the likes of Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson in moving to Elland Road ahead of next season.

An experienced Premier League player, Leeds United fans are impressed by the Longstaff signing, and there are plenty of Newcastle fans sad to see him go which should tell us all we need to know about the 27-year-old.

Sean Longstaff gives his verdict on Leeds United’s 2024/25 season

Speaking to the club after making the move from St James’ Park, Longstaff discussed last season. Leeds United won the Championship title on the final day, racking up 100 points in the end. Longstaff says he was impressed with what he saw from Farke’s men in the Championship.

Longstaff explained: “I watched them a lot. Being one of the top teams in the Championship, they’re on the telly a lot. So I got to watch pretty much all the games and see a team that was really exciting to watch, athletic, really good on the ball. Scored a lot of goals. When the team’s full of confidence you can hopefully come in and add to that but you want to ride off that as well.

“All the lads are on a high from last season. So for me, it’s about coming into a really positive group and trying to add to that. Hopefully take that into this year and have a really good season.”

Leeds United have the last laugh in Sean Longstaff transfer

Earlier in the month, reports revealed how Leeds United had multiple bids rejected for Longstaff. Despite him being out of contract in 2026, and well down the pecking order, Newcastle weren’t about to let him leave on the cheap.

Reports stated that, at first, Leeds were offering £12million for Longstaff, before settling on £15million in the end.

Whilst it may seem like Newcastle United got the best deal, just a year ago Longstaff was valued at £20million by Newcastle. And five years ago, Man United were told to pay £50million to sign Longstaff, though that moved obviously never materialised.

For such an experienced and proven player, who’s still at a good age, Leeds United seem to have gotten themselves a really good deal on Longstaff.
