Leeds United are eyeing their fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Gabriel Gudmundsson.
It’s fair to say that Leeds United have barely scratched the surface in terms of their business thus far. Leeds are expected to make seven more signings.
A name that has been in the news plenty recently is Sean Longstaff’s. He could be one of Leeds’ next additions if they can agree a deal with Newcastle United.
It was confirmed that Leeds were close to signing Longstaff from Newcastle lately after Leeds tabled a third bid of £12 million for Longstaff and the midfielder was edging closer to a switch.
However, the deal was placed on hold after Newcastle rejected a third bid. Not only that, but Longstaff even opened the scoring for Newcastle in a 4-0 win over Carlisle on Saturday.

David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano reveal Sean Longstaff deal agreed with Leeds
It’s since been reported that Newcastle are pushing for closer to £20 million for Longstaff. That’s been revealed since a fourth Longstaff bid from Leeds has been mooted and the deal was claimed to not be totally dead.
Things stalled regarding the 27-year-old, especially following a recent update via The Athletic. They believe a Longstaff exit will become more likely as the window progresses and Newcastle become more amenable.
Within mere days of that stance being outlined, David Ornstein of The Athletic has now confirmed a breakthrough has been found with Leeds.
He reports that the £10 million + £2 million in add-ons bid from Leeds was close to their limit but that they have now struck a deal and “reached an agreement in principle” to sign Longstaff.
Personal terms are reported to already be in place for Longstaff, while Fabrizio Romano claims a medical is now imminent for the midfielder.

Where does Sean Longstaff’s Premier League appearance total rank compared to the Leeds squad?
Leeds are signing a combative and powerful midfielder with an excellent engine and the ability to crash the box and chip in with goals.
The rationale for signing Longstaff is clear in that sense, given his size and intensity. He will add plenty of bite to Leeds’ midfield out of possession.
Leeds have far more Premier League appearances in their squad than either Burnley or Sunderland but Longstaff will add another huge chunk to the current side.
| Player | Premier League appearances |
| Sean Longstaff | 171 |
| Jack Harrison | 170 |
| Illan Meslier | 107 |
| Dan James | 106 |
| Patrick Bamford | 102 |
| Pascal Struijk | 85 |
| Sam Byram | 69 |
| Karl Darlow | 52 |
| Jayden Bogle | 50 |
Longstaff has one more than the highest player in the Leeds squad currently, but Jack Harrison’s future is uncertain, and so is Illan Meslier.
Another proven player at that level who is also homegrown? It makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
