Rob Edwards shares what he thinks of Leeds United’s team ahead of Luton’s trip to Elland Road

Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has been speaking on the difficulty of facing Leeds United ahead of his side’s trip to Elland Road.

Both sides were among the favourites for promotion at the start of the season but so far it is only Leeds who have lived up to that tag.

The Whites sit top of the Championship heading into the midweek round of fixtures with Luton 14 points further back in 16th after four away defeats in a row.

Even despite their poor start to the season, Luton still boast the majority of their squad that was in the Premier League last season and so a difficult game is likely to be in store at Elland Road.

That said, Luton will be without the Championship’s chief creator Alfie Doughty through injury, which is a big blow to how they play under Edwards.

Edwards shares verdict on Leeds ahead of Luton visit

Most manager speaking ahead of facing Leeds claim Daniel Farke‘s side are the best in the division and Swansea City boss Luke Williams was no different last weekend.

And speaking in his pre-match press conference, Edwards has come out with similar praise, in what will be his first meeting with Leeds as a manager.

Edwards, who was a target for Leeds before Farke’s appointment, believe the Whites are a team packed with ‘great individuals’ that is playing with a ‘lot of confidence’.

He told lutontown.co.uk: “They’re probably the best team [in the division]. They have some great individuals and they’re playing with a lot of confidence. It’s going to be a really good challenge and we’ve got to embrace it and enjoy it. There’ll be a good atmosphere and we’re really looking forward to it.

“It was a thrilling game between two good teams. Leeds create a lot of chances and don’t give much away at the other end. It was a high-scoring affair, but in general they don’t give much away and have a lot of good players at the top end of the pitch.

“They play with a real clarity so we know how difficult it is going to be. However, we’ve shown a resilience on Saturday, with that desire and work ethic and we’re going to have to show that in abundance on Wednesday.”

Edwards issues Luton injury update pre-Leeds

While Doughty remains on the sidelines for Luton’s trip to West Yorkshire, Edwards’ injury update was pretty positive on the whole.

Despite their early withdrawals in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hull City, Reece Burke, Shandon Baptiste and Tom Krauß are all fit, while Amari Bell and Jordan Clark are also set for returns.

He told lutontown.co.uk: “He’s [Bell] fit. It was a bit of a strange one, he felt his Achilles. He was in a lot of pain but he’s recovered, which is pleasing for us. It’s been a bit stop-start for him so far this season, but obviously the squad is stronger with him in it.

“It was more of us being proactive. Shandon felt a bit of cramp, while Reece said to us at half-time that he wasn’t going to last all of the game. The lads are being honest, which is good and it’s a case of us having to manage them.”
