Luton star who’s created more chances than any other Championship player to miss Leeds United game with injury

Luton Town will be without one of their best players for the upcoming Championship clash with Leeds United due to injury.

The Hatters have struggled on their return to the second tier after relegation from the Premier League last season and will be without one of their key men for a third match in a row at Elland Road.

Though Daniel Farke is still tipping Luton to finish in the top six come the end of the season, Rob Edwards’ side currently sit 16th in the table.

Luton have also lost four away matches on the bounce, including a heavy 5-1 defeat at Middlesbrough just before the international break.

That said, Luton did manage to pick up an important 1-0 victory over Hull City at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Luton star Alfie Doughty to miss Leeds clash through injury

Farke confirmed Leeds have no fresh injury concerns heading into this one despite a pulsating 4-3 win over Swansea City on Sunday.

Luton will come too soon for Isaac Schmidt after surgery, but Farke is just a couple of players away from a fully fit squad once again.

However, the same cannot be said for Luton, who will be without one of, if not their most important player for the trip to Leeds.

With 45, Alfie Doughty has created more chances than any other player in the Championship this season but is set to be out until 2025 due to ankle ligament damage.

Doughty’s set-pieces and deliveries with his left-foot are an important part of how Luton play under Edwards, and the fact he sits top for chances created despite missing three of the last four matches shows that.

With Elijah Adebayo up front and a few big powerhouses at the back, taking Doughty away certainly eliminates one of their biggest threats.

What Daniel Farke said about Luton ahead of Leeds clash

As mentioned, Farke was full of praise and respect for Luton in his pre-match press conference despite their unexpectedly poor start to the season.

Come May, Farke believes they will finish in the Championship play-off places and says they come into this one without any pressure on them.

He said: “They are one of the contenders for the top six. They played in the Premier League last season. It’s difficult to avoid a hangover in the Championship when you’ve been relegated.

“We made a solid start last season but quite often you’re struggling at the wrong end of the table. This, of course, affects the lads. It was so difficult to get everyone back on track when my Norwich team were relegated.

“Luton have had a poor start but they have a lot of quality in their team. They have a pretty tight group. They are a dangerous side and are a team I expect come next May to finish in the top six.

“We go into the game respectful and they have had an extra day’s recovery compared to us. They will not be the favourite for this game so they can play with more freedom. They have got nothing to lose.”
