Leeds United are quickly back in action this week when they follow up Sunday’s thrilling win over Swansea with a midweek clash against Luton Town.

The last-gasp 4-3 win in South Wales saw Daniel Farke’s side leapfrog Sunderland and Sheffield United to take top spot in the Championship, albeit on goal difference only.

Farke has been dealing with a number of injuries this term, not least to his first-choice central-midfield partnership of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, while exciting summer signing Largie Ramazani made the bench after a layoff with an ankle issue.

Prior to Wednesday night’s Elland Road match, Farke delivered an injury update on his Leeds squad.

Farke delivers injury update but hints at changes

“It seems like there are no new injuries,” said the Leeds boss in his pre-Luton press conference.

“Obviously after a game like always, a few knocks and hits, but no new injuries. All the players who are with us seem to be also available for Wednesday.

“For that obviously quick turnaround, also the weekend, three games in six days, as I mentioned before, during such a week sometimes you have to rotate a bit more than you perhaps normally do, so there could also be a few changes.

“But one thing is for sure, we will take on 11 positions, so it’s never healthy for a team if you have too many changes. But good news, no new injuries.”

Farke also gave an update on Ramazani, who travelled to Swansea, but did not get on the pitch.

“Largie will need a while until he’s really a topic for the starting line-up, but each and every day back in training is beneficial for him and he’s also an option for a few minutes at least.”

One player Farke will not be able to call on against the Hatters is Junior Firpo, who will sit out the final match of his three-game suspension.

Farke will need to manage squad well in coming weeks

Farke will need to be savvy with his squad in the coming weeks as Leeds face a hectic sprint of Championship fixtures ahead of the festive period.

Leeds play six times before Christmas in what will likely be a key point of the season, given how congested the top of the table looks following the weekend’s results.

The Whites are top of the pile, but only on goal difference, but with three of Leeds’ next four fixtures at Elland Road, opportunity knocks for them to enter 2025 in a strong position.
