Ben Parker says he spotted Georginio Rutter making a number of similar runs before eventually getting on the scoresheet for Leeds United last night.

Rutter finally scored his first goal in front of the Elland Road faithful on Wednesday as he found the back of the net in first half stoppage time to set Leeds on their way to victory.

The goal was a real moment of brilliance from start to finish as Ethan Ampadu’s long raking through ball found the run of Rutter perfectly, who then did the rest with an incredible first touch and finish.

Speaking on the latest episode of the LS11 Podcast, Parker spotted Rutter making those runs throughout the opening 45 minutes until Ampadu finally picked him out.

Rutter’s first touch for the goal has been likened to Dennis Bergkamp from pundits Tom Cairney and Paul Merson, such was the sheer quality of it.

Rutter mixing up his game at Leeds

Parker believes it was a real special moment for Rutter to score for the first time at home, and was left blown away by how good it was.

He said: “What a goal, incredible. Everything about it, the ball from Ampadu. It was a great run, I’d seen throughout the first half that Rutter made that run a few times. Strikers do that, keep making those runs, don’t get found, people don’t see them a lot of the time.

“But Ampadu in that deep lying position, sees the ball, perfect timing. But the touch over your shoulder is the hardest touch to do when you’re going forward, but kills it in an instance. Then has the strength to hold the defender off, and gets his first goal at Elland Road. Buzzing for him.”

Rutter has rightly been winning plaudits for his superb creativity over the course of this season, but it is nice to see him mixing up his game as a number nine.

As shown for Dan James’ goal, Rutter loves dropping deep and finding that killer final pass, but to also be able to time those runs in behind is crucial.

Rutter is well on course to smash double figures for both goals and assists, which would represent an incredible return for the 21-year-old.
