Marseille have now made £4.3m offer for player Leeds United want to sign this month

Leeds United are likely to be in the market for a new left-back this month.

Daniel Farke confirmed as early as last month that it is an area the Whites are looking to address and Sam Byram’s persistent injury problems since then, should only have enhanced that.

Byram has either missed or limped off in six of Leeds‘ last seven league matches and the man who filled in there on some of those occasions has now also left the club in Djed Spence.

Junior Firpo has managed to come through the last two matches unscathed but missed almost the entirety of the first half of the season through injury.

With that in mind, Leeds would be wise to strengthen at left-back and Josh Doig is someone who has been linked, but according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Marseille have joined the race.

Marseille make offer for Leeds target Doig

Pedulla reports that Marseille have made an offer of around £4.3 million, but that is around £1 million short of Hellas Verona’s valuation of the player.

He also states that Doig remains a player of interest to Italian side Torino, who were thought to be at the front of the queue last week.

Leeds and Rangers are among the other clubs to have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old this month, but at this stage, it would appear they are yet to firm up any initial interest.

As per a report from the Mail last week, Leeds owners 49ers Enterprises recognise that a left-back needs to come in before the end of January, but it would appear the loan market is more likely.

Angus Kinnear claimed all the way back in September that loans would make up the majority of Leeds’ January transfer strategy. That would suggest that Doig will not be coming to Elland Road.
