Club now willing to sell their £5.5m-rated player, with Leeds United showing interest in a transfer

Leeds United are being linked with a move for Scottish left-back Josh Doig as Daniel Farke looks to solve his left-back issues – and Hellas Verona are open to an exit, but Rangers have opened talks.

Doig, 21, is currently in Italian football as another example of a Scottish player moving to Serie A. Other examples include Lewis Ferguson who is starring for Bologna, while Aaron Hickey excelled over there.

Doig moved to Verona in the summer of 2022 and after remaining patient for a run in Verona’s side, he impressed last term. Indeed, he had a hand in six goals in just 22 outings for his current club in 22-23.

Reports over the weekend stated that Doig was a target for Leeds, Rangers, Monza and Torino with the January window now fully underway. The Record given an update, stating Rangers have opened talks.

They state that Verona want a fee of £5.5m for his services and indeed, willing to sell the left-sided flyer. But, it is unclear if Rangers are able to meet Doig’s asking price as they look to replace Borna Barisic.

Daniel Farke has made it clear he wants a left-back. That is before Junior Firpo laid on two assists on Monday, in the 3-0 win over Birmingham City. But also, before Sam Byram picked up another injury.

Byram and Firpo are renowned for their constant injury record and Leeds need another option. Firpo’s time at Elland Road has long been under the microscope and Byram is right-footed. It is still an issue.

Leeds need a left-back, a long-term solution and to stop papering over the cracks. Doig could be that man. For little over £5m, he fits the kind of cash Leeds have been spending. A potentially top signing.
