Premier League legend Teddy Sheringham has given his verdict on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hopes of breaking back into the England squad after his first Leeds United goal.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first Premier League goal since January 2025 in Leeds’ 3-1 win over Wolves, as he looped an impressive header over Jose Sa.
Farke praised Calvert-Lewin’s impact behind the scenes at Elland Road in the build-up to the Bournemouth game, revealing that he has helped to mentor rising star Harry Gray in training.
Anton Stach backed Calvert-Lewin to force his way into the England set-up if he can keep scoring for the Whites, having won his last cap in England’s 3-0 win over Ukraine at Euro 2020.
Now, Sheringham has sent a warning that Calvert-Lewin still has plenty to do before he will return to England contention.

Teddy Sheringham assesses Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s England hopes
Speaking in an interview with the Yorkshire Post, Sheringham explained why he does not believe Calvert-Lewin is close to a return to the England squad.
According to Sheringham, Calvert-Lewin will need to score a lot of goals to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s thoughts.
However, the former England man believes he has a good chance of doing so at Leeds, as he can be a leading light in their hunt for Premier League survival.
Sheringham said: “I’m not sure whether he can get back into the England set-up because you have to really score a lot of goals.
“When you’re playing in a team that’s only just got promoted, you’re not really expected to be in the top half and going to the top six, dominating teams. But he could definitely be a leading light for Leeds.”

Jayden Bogle will be crucial to Calvert-Lewin’s success
Leeds received a boost ahead of the game against Bournemouth with the news that Dan James and Jayden Bogle will be fit to take their place in the squad.
Although this will be crucial to Leeds’ hopes of maintaining their perfect home record against the Cherries, this partnership will also be essential to Calvert-Lewin’s hopes this season.
Calvert-Lewin’s goal against Wolves could prove to be a template for Leeds, as Bogle delivered a wicked early cross from deep, allowing the Leeds number nine to head home.
The former Everton man is brilliant in the air. If Bogle can feed him with high-quality service from his wing, then his chances of breaking into the England squad will be greatly improved.
