Junior Firpo has been excellent for Leeds United this season, but his Elland Road tenure could be coming to an end.

It will be an unfortunate way to see his Leeds career come to a halt, but it seems as though the left-back has already made up his mind.

Firpo’s agents see a Leeds stay as ‘unlikely’ and the 28-year-old is probably enjoying every last moment in Yorkshire.

There have been talks that Firpo could return to Real Betis, as many clubs will be queuing up for the Championship’s best at his position.

Well, it can be debated he’s the best, but the EFL have suggested otherwise this season, and Firpo is not happy.

Leeds United’s Junior Firpo sends message to controversial EFL decision

The full-back has arguably been Leeds’ player of the season but there is much debate around this as well.

Dan James should win the award, but Firpo no doubt deserves his name in the hat.

Despite it looking like he will be leaving, Daniel Farke has suggested a Firpo stay, and this will be a talking point as the weeks go on after the season.

The Domincan Republic has remained schtum on that prospect, but he’s certainly had a voice for a recent EFL decision.

Like every year, the EFL released their Championship team of the season, but controversially, Firpo was an absentee, with Sheffield United’s Harrison Burrows instead taking the left-back spot.

This brought outrage from the Leeds fanbase, and now Firpo himself has spoken on the decision.

Talking on Leeds’ 4-0 win vs Bristol City, Firpo sent a message on X to Burnley about the title race as well as a cheeky dig at the EFL for their decision to include Burrows over him.

“Still thinking about that atmosphere yesterday night, what a game and what a group you don’t deserve less than that performance,” Firpo said.

“But the job is not done yet, this group is hungry for more so let’s do it once more.

“Yours Truly, the second-best left-back in the league (laughing emoji).”

How Leeds’ Firpo deserves a place more than Burrows

The award always seems to divide opinion as after the Whites’ excellent season under Farke, three players doesn’t seem enough as it is.

But to not have Firpo is quite frankly a joke.

This is no disrespect to Burrows, who has had a fine season with the Blades, but when you compare the two full-backs, it’s clear who deserves the spot.

It’s clear Firpo deserved more out of what could’ve been a brilliant last season.

Firpo isn’t finished in the Premier League, which could open the door to him signing a new contract, but time will tell.
