A handful of Leeds United players are being linked with the Elland Road exit door this month with Joe Gelhardt expected to be the first departure of the January transfer window.
But six players including Gelhardt have been linked with an exit. Pascal Struijk is a target for Tottenham while Leeds are willing to listen to offers for Illan Meslier after is dismal showing against Hull on Saturday.
Leeds are yet to make any significant moves in terms of incoming in the January window, though a three-year deal has been agreed with teenage goalkeeper Robbie Cook, who is set to arrive from Perth Glory.
But Wycombe Wanderers striker Sam Vokes has commented on one surprise rumour that would see Patrick Bamford join cash-rich League One promotion hopefuls Wrexham before the February 3 deadline.
Sam Vokes thinks Patrick Bamford still has Premier League quality
It has been reported that both Wrexham and Serie A side Genoa have shown interest in Bamford. The one-time England man has failed to start a single Championship game for Daniel Farke’s Leeds this term.
It will come as no surprise to Leeds fans that Bamford is once again injured. On Saturday, Leeds take on Harrogate and it was perhaps, Bamford’s only realistic chance to start again for Leeds this season.
On the Feast of Football podcast, Wales striker Vokes discussed the links between Bamford and Wrexham and he thinks a move would be an “interesting one” before saying Bamford has Premier League quality.
“I did see that, yes, that was an interesting one. Wrexham looking to put their hands in their pockets again, I’m sure. Obviously not playing as much at Leeds at the moment but he’s had a great career.
“He came to us at Burnley on loan from Chelsea and, to be honest, it didn’t really work out well but he’s done very well in his time. That will be an interesting one – Premier League quality at Wrexham possibly.”
What does Daniel Farke think about Patrick Bamford now
Clearly the club’s third-choice striker behind Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph, Bamford’s importance at Leeds is running out. Certainly, the striker is not playing to the level his Elland Road wages would now suggest.
It is believed Bamford is still on a huge £40,000-a-week wage despite relegation to the Championship in 2023. But, Farke has said that Leeds would be in the Premier League if Bamford stayed fit last season.
More recently, Farke has described Bamford as “crucial” and says a fit version of the striker is an asset to any side. The problem is for Leeds, Farke and Bamford, is that it has been a long time since he was 100%.
