Leeds United have enjoyed their start to the campaign for the most part, but the 5-0 defeat to Arsenal and late 1-0 loss to Fulham were equally hurtful.
The thumping at Arsenal was arguably easier to stomach than losing to a last-gasp own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson at Craven Cottage. However, Leeds United then repeated the same feat with late dropped points to Bournemouth, too.
Outside of that moment for the Swedish international, it’s fair to say that he has been among Leeds’ best players so far in 2025/26. In fact, a Leeds poll voted for Gudmundsson as signing of the season already, just ahead of Anton Stach.
Leeds fans were impressed with Gudmundsson’s August displays but his display against Bournemouth was particularly impressive and had Leeds fans more sure about their assessment of Gudmundsson since his arrival from Lille.

Daniel Farke was extremely forgiving of Gudmundsson, with national media in somewhat of a frenzy regarding the moment. Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer reacted to Gudmundsson and his comical moment that day.
Micah Richards was left fuming at Gudmundsson, but he bounced back well against Wolves, even if Farke wished Gudmundsson would shoot more often during that game at Molineux.
Speaking via BBC Sounds, he said: “I can’t describe how really hurt I was. I was hurting for two days. Obviously, because we played a really good game. After an international, it’s very difficult to play away and get a good result.
“In my time I’ve never been through something like that. Again, I think we played very well and deserved at least one point, even maybe three. So, it was really hurtful. The best thing in football is that the next weekend, or even in a couple of days, you have another game.
“For me, of course I’m very focused in every game, but this one was especially for me at Wolverhampton. I was so happy to get the three points.”
Leeds’ Swedish left-back has fixed a problem area for the Whites for the better part of a decade. Irrespective of that mistake at Fulham, that remains the case.

Gabriel Gudmundsson explains his relationship with Leeds’ Noah Okafor
Given their age, Noah Okafor and Gudmundsson could well be Leeds’ left-hand side for a few seasons yet. The pair are 25 and 26 respectively.
On Okafor, Gudmundsson added: “Noah is a great, great player and he has shown that in a top league for Milan in Serie A as well — so in the Champions League.
“I think I played him — I think we talked about it — in ‘21 as well? Lille against Salzburg in the Champions League.
“But, yeah, great player and great person as well. We’ll just keep playing with each other, you know? Time will tell also that we’ll have a better relationship on the pitch later on as well.
“Because, I think, when you play more with each other, you get to know each other even more. So, great player.”
