Leeds United fans have delivered a unanimous verdict on one of their summer signings after he produced another impressive display in the draw with Bournemouth.

Although Daniel Farke was frustrated by Leeds’ inability to add more to their attack on transfer deadline day, several of his new recruits have impressed in the Premier League campaign to date.

Sean Longstaff enjoyed his best game in a Leeds shirt so far against the Cherries, scoring his first goal for the club and setting a new Leeds record in the process.

Although he was guilty of missing several chances, Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned praise from Jermaine Beckford after a strong all-round display, leading the line for the Whites.

Gabriel Gudmundsson has also enjoyed a strong start to his Leeds career, replacing Junior Firpo in the troublesome left-back spot. Leeds fans have taken him straight to their hearts, showering him with praise after the frustrating draw at Elland Road.

Leeds United fans praise Gabriel Gudmundsson

Gudmundsson’s value to the Leeds squad was highlighted by a tenacious passage of play in the build-up to Longstaff’s goal as he refused to come out on the losing side of a duel before the ball worked its way across to the former Newcastle man.

This work ethic has not gone unnoticed by Leeds United fans, several of whom declared that the Swedish international was their signing of the season on the social media site X (formerly Twitter).

Responding to a post by the club’s X account, one fan backed this assessment, stating: “Player of the season for me so far and this year’s bargain signing!”

This was a popular view among the Leeds fanbase after the Bournemouth game, as another fan added: “Absolute steal of a signing, been brilliant so far for us.”

The view that Gudmundsson is Leeds’ player of the season so far was echoed by another fan, who wrote: “My man of the match and player of the season so far.”

Another fan praised Gudmundsson’s work ethic, adding: “The way he battled for balls that a lot would have just let go was incredible.”

One fan has been won over after initially questioning the deal to bring him to Elland Road, admitting: “Been absolutely outstanding so far this season. Really didn’t think he would be this good when we signed him. Fair play to the recruitment team on this one.”

Gabriel Gudmundsson passes the eye test

Gudmundsson was the victim of several algorithms over the weekend, as several football sites marked down his performance on their player ratings.

Despite near-universal praise from fans who watched the game, Sofascore gave Gudmundsson a 6.1 rating, which was similar to the 6.12 he received from Whoscored.com, while Fotmob went even further, handing him a grade of 5.4.

This goes to show the value of the eye test when judging a player, as no one who watched the game against Bournemouth would have rated Gudmundsson among the worst players on the pitch.

He has quickly established himself as a firm favourite among Leeds fans, and the £10 million they paid to sign him now appears to be a bargain. Seeing is believing as far as Gudmundsson is concerned.
