Leeds United face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux this Saturday, with a 1964 record on the line as an extra incentive for Daniel Farke’s side.
Wolves are rock bottom and without a point so far, while Leeds United have four points in the 2025/26 season after two seasons away from the Premier League. It’s a massive game for both sides early on in the campaign.

Leeds’ referee has been selected for the Wolves game, which is another concern given previous experiences when officiating Leeds games. In fact, Opta believe Wolves beat Leeds this weekend, and it appears most things are going against the Whites.
The build up to the match certainly feels that way, especially factoring in that Daniel Farke has a poor managerial record vs Wolves. He is up against Vitor Pereira, who signed a new Wolves deal this week.

Wolves could break a 1964 record if they beat Leeds
Leeds fans are concerned about output vs Wolves but the worries are mounting up when digging a little deeper. It’s not just Farke’s poor record or Opta’s prediction which needs to be overcome.
Wolves may well have lost Matheus Cunha to Man United and Rayan Ait Nouri to Man City, but they have quality. One thing that could go in their favour is that Jorgen Strand Larsen is a doubt for Wolves, however.
But that will not totally alleviate concerns and other details have since emerged regarding Wolves’ record against newly-promoted clubs in recent seasons, which could break a record from 1964.
Wolves have won eight of their last 10 Premier League matches against newly promoted clubs, with one draw and just one loss. However, they have already won each of their last four in a row.
Wolverhampton Wanderers last won five top-flight games in a row against promoted sides between March 1963 and February 1964, though, interestingly the club that ended that winning run was Leeds.

Other key stats suggest Leeds should be positive away to Wolves
One of the caveats is Wolves’ start to this season, but also their end to 2024/25 as well. It’s the first time in Wolves’ history that they have lost their first four games of a top flight season.
They beat Leicester City 3-0 in late-April, but they ended last year with three defeats and a draw. The draw came during a 1-1 with Brentford on the final day of the season.
They have struggled this season even more thus far, with four defeats out of four. That has been an issue in the last two seasons in terms of starting quickly.
That is due to the fact Wolves have lost eight of their last nine home Premier League matches in August and September (with one win), conceding 28 goals at Molineux across these nine games. They have already conceded seven to Man City and Everton at home as well.
