Promotion to the Premier League means Leeds United will face the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter next season.
The departures of that trio sent shockwaves through Leeds United, but especially in the case of the Frenchman, given the timing of his exit so late into the window.
A meeting between Leeds and the 23-year-old is set to happen next season either way, but his heartbreaking exit from the club was tough to take. Replacing Rutter won’t be easy for Leeds, and neither will the reunion.
The £40 million deal in the summer now looks like a great piece of business from the Seagulls, but also from Leeds’ perspective after gaining promotion at the second time of asking.

Leeds fans react to playing against Georginio Rutter in the Premier League
The truth is, Rutter still loves Leeds and the fans, which is why Rutter had a tearful farewell when he left Leeds. It will be emotional for him whatever reception he receives back in West Yorkshire.
The fixtures for the new Premier League season are out in just 12 days, and Rutter is certain to be looking out for Brighton’s trip to Elland Road as a key date.
After his exploits in 2023/24, most would expect him to get a warm enough reception, especially after banking Leeds £40 million in the process.
Another added: “He’s Leeds and he knows he is….”
Other fans have other former players in mind who will not deserve as much praise as the likes of Rutter, Gray, and Kalvin Phillips, with Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams under fire instead: “A better one than Sinistera or Adams 👀”
Some are more indifferent about the matter, with another stating: “He’s just another player now. Hope he has an absolute stinker against us. More important to back our lads and focus on that rather than booing him.”
Of course, not everyone agreed with the above, with some feeling indifferent and others stating they will boo him for leaving, but the majority of Leeds fans have chosen the appropriate response.

Georginio Rutter’s English career stats for Brighton and Leeds
The truth is, Leeds have not replaced Rutter or Pablo Hernandez since their departures, with very few players possessing the genius and invention they had around the box.
One player could be Igor Paixao, who has some of Rutter’s flair. But the French forward continues to develop and go from strength to strength as he ages and improves.
| Team | Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Leeds United | 2022/23 (Premier League) | 13 | 0 | 1 |
| Leeds United | 2023/24 (Championship) | 51 | 8 | 16 |
| Leeds United | 2024/25 (Championship) | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Brighton & Hove Albion | 2024/25 (Premier League) | 32 | 8 | 4 |
His output has shot up season on season since arriving to England from Hoffenheim. Rutter is one of the most dynamic attackers in the Premier League and his versatility allows him to be deployed in multiple roles, too.
Leeds fans will hope that he plays poorly against them, though, no matter what reception he is granted.
